About Gia
Gia Meeks is one of the most accomplished throwers in Texas history. She broke the Longhorns’ weight throw record with her very first throw in burnt orange, then broke it again at each of her next two meets. In 2026 she won the SEC indoor title and took bronze at the NCAA Indoor Championships, the first All-America honor by a Texas woman in the event. Outdoors she set the Texas hammer record of 68.23m on her way to SEC silver. Her lifetime best, 68.94m, came for Cal at the 2025 NCAA Championships, where she placed fifth.
A Denver native, Meeks played club soccer, basketball and volleyball before a weightlifting coach at Northfield High School steered her toward throwing. Three years later she was a national high school champion in two events. At Vanderbilt she set school records and was named SEC Co-Freshman Field Athlete of the Year; at Cal she won two ACC titles; then she followed her throws coach to Texas, where she studies Communication & Leadership. She says competing for three programs taught her to be self-sufficient.
That self-sufficiency carries straight into project work. Meeks describes her competition routine simply: remember the cues from practice and execute them when it counts. As a Project Manager Intern at Feniex Industries in 2026, she brought the same preparation to cross-functional work at an Austin manufacturer of emergency-vehicle lighting and electronics, keeping schedules current, writing clear updates and documenting how work gets done. Employers get a calm, accountable communicator who has proven she performs best when the stakes are highest.
